Becoming familiar with:
the diverse cycles of the desert,
the distinct, seductive smells,
where the deer mingle,
where to find the extra special stones,
the best time of day for animal spotting,
where the water is most likely to stock up when it rains,
is truly making me feel ....
ALIVE.
I am pretty wild these days; more like the feral animal that we humans tend to forget that we are (Freud would be so proud). The more nature that I am utterly submerged in, the more hungry I get for nature (note to use this positive correlation example in class). The untamed, natural world is becoming my mad obsession and it is regrettably making me quite awkward in people- filled- places- of- business. I get anxiety in cemented shopping malls and feel as though I am a forced member of a huge group of cattle being herded around while I wait in lines, drive in lanes, do the things that society smiles upon, and purchase things with bar-codes on them. I constantly question this strange, chaotic world that mankind has produced, which is the literal opposite of the minimalistic deserts, forests, mountains, and rivers. Is it possible to have the best of both worlds (i.e., development and natural world) without losing our souls? Right now I feel so protective of my heart that I am hiding out with the coyotes. Somebody please come bring me a drink!

“To wander is a very good choice. So off we go, down into a
different world, under a different sky, with unfamiliar ground beneath our
boots. And yet we go vulnerably, for we have no grasping, no holding on to, no
clinging to, no knowing” (Clarissa Pinkola Estes).
Here's to the space between things, this undomesticated air, and a horizon to watch the sun and moon rise and fall. And while we are at it, thank you, kindly, dear Superstitions for providing me with new perspective yet again. Since I was a child, I have drawn you, hiked you, dreamed of you, studied you, believed in you, danced with you, loved you, and now I peacefully rest upon your beautiful dirt every night.
"Arigato Zaisho" (translation: thank you for letting me climb upon your body).
